I am a newbie Grateful Dead fan. That means I have been listening for only 14 years now.

And I need help. I really can't listen to much beyond 1991 of the Grateful Dead. 1991 isn't even my favorite, but there are very good moments there. And of course there are "moments" of goodness in all the years, even after 1991. Now be kind, and those whom really got into and still love 1992-1995 dead, help me.

Point me to a singular show, from 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, that you feel is overall the stongest show of that respective year. It doesn't have to be technically good, it needs energy and life (like many 1985 shows, one of my favorite years...many shows are very sloppy, but quite inspired)

Help reverse my problem. I need some new dead to break my assumptions.

Thanks friends.

I won't claim to think it was THE best for the year, but it was a good one, full of energy. it was a fun night. casey jones was full of energy, so was loose lucy. a haunting days between.

this recording is kind of muddy, if you can get your hands on the sbd, check it out.

well...by my star rating, there are no 5-star shows post-91. But here's some 4-stars:

5/31/92
6/14/92
1/24/93
3/27/93
5/27/93
8/22/93
9/16/93
3/30/94
4/1/94
8/1/94
10/5/94
2/21/95
3/17/95

OOPS...there is one 5-star from 94, but it is under Phil and Friends. It is 9/24/94 and it is an acoustic set from Jerry, Bobby, Phil, and Vince. It fucking smokes.

Every year has some good shows. Per your criteria, I would recommend the following:

1992: 5/31/92- Vegas - Great Stuff!
1993: 5/16/93 - Vegas (again) - real high energy
1994: 10/1/94 - The last great show
1995: 3/23/95 (2nd set) or 6/30/95 - last solid show from beginning to end

-Overall - 1992 had competent playing but often lacked energy. 1993 witnessed a very energetic Garcia and has many high quality shows (especially Spring and Summer Tours). 1994 is where the slide began in earnest. There are still some very good shows (3/30/94, 3/16/94, 6/26/94, etc.) but the band was inconsistent. You have to hunt for the good ones. As far as 1995 goes - it is often difficult to find realy good complete shows. You have to search within certain shows to find the highlights (a few songs - especially the Garcia ballads - or an individual set).

Happy hunting!

Good Luck with That...

I can't help but point you to a different era, but I AM interested in what those late year lovers might suggest.

Step up, 90's fans, and convince us all!

I rarely listen to anything post-Brent but I always liked this show, especially set 2. Its nothing to write home to mother about you undertand, but once you get used to the vocals...

Help is on the way my friend. Newbie?? 14 years is good enough for veteran status if you ask me.

My favorites from each year:

1992-3/24 (with Bruce), 12/06 (check out the Althea- hot)

1993-8/22 (famously good show with a long Jack Straw that has a story behind it), 6/11 (best opening combo of the summer tour),

1994-10/05, 7/31 (Midnight Hour is cool)

1995-3/23, 6/30 (all the rain songs in the 2nd set, plus a nice Candyman)

All these shows are available on here in sbd (except 6/30/95). I hope you enjoy.

You got a gold watch? I got a plastic mesh trucker's hat with "Tri Chromes Island Tour 2000" on it.
